Michael N. Colacci is the founder of Colacci Law Firm, LLC, a Bridgewater-based New Jersey law firm representing clients in personal injury, workers' compensation, criminal defense, DWI/DUI, traffic, and municipal court matters.

Michael's legal foundation was shaped in the courtroom.

After graduating from Rutgers Law School, he served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Lisa M. Walsh, J.S.C., in the Criminal Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Union County. In that role, Michael worked closely with the court on criminal motions, legal research, suppression issues, post-conviction applications, jury instructions, and written opinions. That experience gave him early insight into how judges evaluate credibility, evidence, procedure, and legal argument.

Following his clerkship, Michael practiced litigation at New Jersey law firms where he handled insurance defense, public-entity defense, civil rights claims, employment matters, governmental-law issues, and general liability litigation. His defense-side work included matters involving Fortune 500 insurance groups and affiliated insurance entities, including AIG, Allstate, and Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance, as well as public entities, employers, and institutional defendants.

That experience gave him a practical understanding of how insurance companies and institutional defendants evaluate liability, damages, exposure, and settlement. Michael uses that experience today to represent injured clients and individuals facing serious legal problems.

Michael's courtroom background also includes public-service experience as a municipal prosecutor. He has handled DWI, traffic, disorderly persons, and municipal court matters from both sides of the courtroom, giving him a balanced perspective on criminal and municipal practice. Michael is certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Municipal Court Trial Attorney.

Michael earned his Bachelor of Science in Business from Penn State and his Juris Doctor from Rutgers Law School. While in law school, he served as an Associate New Developments Editor for the Rutgers Journal of Law and Religion, participated in the Honorable James Hunter III Moot Court Program, and authored a published article on sovereign citizens and legislative responses to their impact on courts, law enforcement, and private citizens.

Michael is also a legal educator and speaker. He has taught courses to law enforcement and public employees on issues including police misconduct investigations, absenteeism, OPRA obligations, and Brady/Giglio disclosure issues. He has also served as CLE faculty through TRTCLE, where he teaches Winning DUI Trials: Strategic Approaches with DRE Testimony, a program addressing DUI cases involving Drug Recognition Expert testimony.

Competitive Discipline & Philosophy

Michael's preparation-first approach began long before he became an attorney. At Penn State's Abington Campus, he competed as an NCAA Division III basketball player, and led his conference in made three-pointers per game as a junior. His senior year he captained the team and earned conference, regional, and Philadelphia-area recognition, before graduating as the program's all-time leader in career three-pointers made in just 57 games.
